Play Rogue Rescue

For this project I was prompted to create pixel art. This was my first time making any sort of pixel art, but I was very eager to try something new. After discussing the personality and character design with my teammate, I gathered references and sketched out her design. I translated that design from Procreate to Pixel Studios and created the dark elf known as Sojourn. I wanted to keep the background rather simple, but detailed enough so it really looked like an outdoor environment. I don’t typically create backgrounds aside from simple colors, so creating that landscape was something new for me and it's something I’d like to continue to explore. Her idle animation came out differently then expected, specifically with the hair movement. I’ve never done frame by frame animation with pixel art, so figuring out the hair physics was a little tricky. The design took about 2 hours to create and polish the final design. The idle animation took about one night to finish. The platforms also took about 2 hours to complete. This project was a midterm for my Game Design class in which we had a little under a month to perfect. At the time, I was balancing projects for 4 other classes. If I was able to dedicate more time to Rogue Rescue, I would have liked to create an attack animation for Sojourn and one of the slimes. Additionally, I would have liked to create other slime designs.
